Empowering Smallholder Women Farmers Through Organic Sustainable Farming and GBV Support

By Uplift Her CBO27 August 20261 min read

On 27 August 2026, Uplift Her CBO brought together 35 smallholder women farmers in Mnarani, Kilifi County for a Climate and Care Training designed to strengthen women's resilience to climate change while promoting their wellbeing and access to support services.

The training focused on organic and sustainable farming practices that women can apply in their farms and households. Participants explored practical approaches to improving soil health, producing organic compost, conserving water, managing pests naturally and developing sustainable kitchen gardens. These practices are helping women build more resilient farming systems while supporting food security and sustainable livelihoods.

The training also recognised that climate and livelihood challenges can increase vulnerabilities within communities. Participants were therefore introduced to GBV reporting, referral and support services, creating awareness of where women can seek help and protection when experiencing gender-based violence.

At Uplift Her, we believe climate action must go hand in hand with care. By equipping women with knowledge, practical skills and information about available support services, we are working towards communities where women can strengthen their livelihoods, respond to climate challenges and live with dignity and safety.
